Meet Our Summer 2014 Interns

We are thrilled to introduce you to our new summer interns!  Interns are a vital part of making the Susan G. Komen® Southeast Wisconsin promises a reality: to find a cure and eradicate breast cancer.  We found passionate interns who will help us serve our community and work with us as we get closer to this promise. Meet our new team members.

School- Marian University

Major -Business Administration

Next Step-Hopefully working for Komen

Why I chose Komen- I've always had a love for breast cancer and raised money throughout the years. Having an internship at the Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate will help me get my foot in the door for getting a position at Komen.

Lindsay Schedler
PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

School- University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

Major - Advertising and Public Relations

Next Step- After I graduate in the spring, I hope to find a job with a non-profit doing social media and event planning.

Why I chose Komen-  When applying for internships I knew I wanted to learn and gain experience, but I also wanted a job where I was helping a cause.  Recently I have had several family members and friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  The funding that Susan G. Komen does for research to find a cure and to provide people in communities with education, support services and diagnostic services, is amazing, so applying to Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin for an internship was on the top of my list.  I am honored and lucky to be able to learn more about the communications field while also helping to make a difference with the work that I do.

Next step- I currently work for a medical writing company and will continue to do so.

Why I chose Komen -Almost two years ago my father was diagnosed with cancer. Prior to his diagnosis cancer seemed like this far away thing that would never strike myself or anyone in our family. After all we were all active, ate health, never smoked, and did not drink. After my father’s devastating diagnosis I realized that cancer is real and it can effect anyone. I am joining Komen this summer to help with the health system analysis to ensure that women diagnosed with breast cancer are given the resources they need to fight and beat cancer.

PRISCILLA HERNANDEZ
Breast Cancer Awareness Month INTERN

School: Mount Mary University
Major: Communications

Next step: I would love to be a part of an organization or company that helps bring awareness to an issue, cause, or person. Also to help fill in the gaps that are not necessarily clearly understood and help make sure accurate information is being provided at all times on social media. I want to be a part of making a difference in the lives of others.

Why I chose Komen: I would like to help others and lend a helping hand to those who need it as well as make an impact in the lives of others. Coming together as one is a beautiful and I believe that is what Komen instills.
